In the absence of a regulatory authority, we refer to the Spa standard.
An invaluable reference, this standard is available to everyone, free of charge.
This document clearly defines what is a “SPA” and aims to assure its clientele, a level of quality for its products and services by identifying and requiring:
To comply with the laws and rules applicable to spa activities, particularly the rules governing swimming pools and other artificial pools (test and document regularly)
• Training of therapists and personnel;
• Treatment protocols are respected for the treatments;
• Descriptions of all services and installations offered;
• Maintenance, hygiene, sanitation and cleanliness of all equipment;
• Customer service;
• Customer safety;
• Respect for the natural and human environment.
It is important to note the application of this standard is on a voluntary basis. Also, establishments are not required to respect it, however are strongly recommended to do so to assure a level of quality acceptable towards their clientele but also towards their personnel.
It is also important to mention that in addition to regular “mystery” inspections, ALL the certified spa members are subject to rigorous quality standards, surpassing the Spa Standard. Thus, all of our members respect a strict code of ethics, in addition to offering treatments dispensed by recognized and competent professionals.
